Monteverde is a relatively young region established at the beginning of the 1930s-1940s. As part of the central county of Puntarenas, Monteverde district has been part of the municipality of Puntarenas for over 60 years. Our first health clinic, as well as many other local organizations, was established during the 1980’s. As a result, Monteverde began taking steps in planned urban development. In 2003 the first District Council was established and with it, much of the decision-making centered in Monteverde. The district currently has numerous organizations from various areas engaged in the task of regional sustainable development. Â
Because real and consistent data regarding past and current events lead to more informed decision-making, the Sustainable Futures Program is collaborating with local public institutions to create and maintain up-to-date an inter-institutional database that use geographic system information to illustrate graphic outcome monitoring actual development trends in Monteverde’s municipal district. The purpose of the database is to help inform both public and private community institutions in their decision-making. Â
The four participating organizations each have specific responsibilities in order to update and expand the database:
Community connections, decades of experience, and the unique natural environment are the foundation for our collaboratively-designed, place-based, experiential academic programs.
