We are a non-profit educational organization founded in 1986 in Monteverde, Costa Rica, to guide the increased tourism in a sustainable way by integrating academic programs, research, and community initiatives into programs to benefit both visitors and the local community.
The Monteverde Institute offers a wide range of services and support to our partner educational institutions. We work with primary and secondary schools, and dozens of universities to collaboratively design place-based education abroad programming that benefits the local community and satisfies the academic needs of the sending institution.
We work with the Monteverde community, local organizations, government institutions and grassroots groups, so they can identify the main issues in the zone and work with us in order to create new solutions with our different programs.
The Monteverde Institute is open to developing and seeking funding for collaborative research projects with researchers, universities, and other institutions whose research interests and community-focus match our mission of sustainable living at the local and global level.
