The Monteverde Institute is open to developing and seeking funding for collaborative research projects with researchers, universities, and other institutions whose research interests and community-focus match our mission of sustainable living at the local and global level.
Researchers interested in working in Monteverde can become MVI affiliates through our research department. We provide our affiliates with support on a variety of levels – permitting, selecting field sites, connecting with local human resources, housing of equipment, lab space, etc. We search for ways for data collection to continue in the researcher ́s absence if necessary (for example coordinating with a local student interested in the project). We strive to provide local context and continuity to projects carried out by students and researchers.
A model that has emerged in the past few years is that of professor-researcher. The faculty member brings a course, and before/after the course conducts research. The research project is often integrated into the course, and a select group of students might travel with the professor to participate in data collection outside the course. This model is financially advantageous as it helps faculty make the most of an international trip, and may open multiple doors for funding the trip. It is also academically advantageous, as students engage with current research, and more data collection is possible. A discounted affiliation fee is offered to professors of MVI-hosted courses.
We will be displaying the research done at the Monteverde Institute by Current and past affiliated researchers. As well as a mention on the amazing people they are and a brief mention of their stories.
Researchers affiliated with the Monteverde Institute are provided with services that include research permit processing, lab space and equipment use, storage, library access, logistical recommendations, homestay, housing, documentation for shipping equipment internationally, etc.
Community connections, decades of experience, and the unique natural environment are the foundation for our collaboratively-designed, place-based, experiential academic programs.
