about us

Our place-based academic programs include collaboratively-designed faculty-led courses, immersive long programs, internships, Spanish language, virtual programming, and a menu of presentations and activities. Our academic programs are unique thanks to their interface with MVI’s community relationships, on-going projects, and research.

Our mission is to promote social, ecological and economic sustainability by integrating community initiatives with education, research and conservation.

We are a non-profit educational organization founded in 1986 in Monteverde, Costa Rica, to guide the increased tourism in a sustainable way by integrating academic programs, research, and community initiatives into programs to benefit both visitors and the local community

Campus

Our unique campus provides space for academic and community partners to learn, teach, gather, reflect, and create. Prototype solutions to local sustainability challenges lessen the environmental impact of our operations, inspire visitors, and provide replicable examples for local implementation.
