Emergency Protocols for Course Professors and Coordinators:
Since the inception of the Monteverde Institute in 1986 with its mission to guide students and academics in exceptional programs of placed based learning and cultural understanding, we have served over 500 students per year in the last decade. At the same time, these students have inspired us to grow and learn. We believe that study abroad programs are critical for the creation and stability of the global community that is our future. We are proud to be a part of this larger mission.
The health and safety of our students is a priority for the Monteverde Institute. The development and compliance to well-defined emergency protocols is paramount as these protocols ensure safe handling of emergencies and provide the necessary professional services. We are well aware that it is not possible to address every possible situation but we believe that these steps provide the basis for the handling of any emergency.
Course professors and coordinators are provided copies of these protocols as well as coordinator handbooks. Pre-course information is gathered before the arrival of students and a full range of the available emergency services are documented. A MVI emergency response team is employed to respond to emergencies and should be notified immediately in the case of any emergency. Immediate notification to the U.S. based study abroad offices is also a requisite.
